Okay, it's time to start the backlash against singing.

What is singing, really? Pairing up words with music. Yes, it's diverting. It can be interesting. It'll pass the time when you're going for a drive.

But does it really deserve words like "Idol" to describe folks who are good at it?

I mean, it's crazy. Somebody rhythmically croons banal lyrics to a catchy tune and all of a sudden we're tearing our hair out for them? Singing doesn't help anybody. It doesn't accomplish anything.

We so ridiculously prize this "talent" that we've totally lost our country's core values. Our kids ignore worthwhile, productive pastimes in favor of something that virtually guarantees they're going to fail, and in the process provides them with absolutely no life skills. But how can they resist? They turn on the TV and see some fanciful character with one tiny, odd talent being treated like the second coming of Jesus, and all of a sudden they know what they want to do with their lives.

Let's wise up, shall we? Let's give our kids some real role models. Let's show some enthusiasm for the real heroes for a change. The folks who don't get up on a stage when they do their jobs.

Please, join me in emailing the TV networks and saying, ENOUGH! We are sick of it. There are far more important skills than singing, and I for one am not going to rest until So You Think You Can Blow Me is on TV.
