Obituary for a Parrot

What is up with the New York Times? Lately it's seemed like the whole paper has been taken over by shallow, rich white women, with entire sections composed of nothing but stories about botox and Marc Jacobs and where all the socialites are flying today.

And now they think we're interested in the words of a squawky, fluffy-headed peanut-eater.

Heck, I won't even read Andrea Peyser.

But he was a parrot! That could talk! In English!

I've read a few blogs where people were genuinely upset that this parrot died. I understand the sentiment in theory, but in practice, well... he was a parrot that these people never met. It's not like he was their beloved pet or a parrot that cried out, "Fire!" thus saving little Timmy and his family.

Lots of things can talk, but it doesn't make them interesting. Could he tell you about his day? Return your phone calls? Remind you about the takeout container of chicken curry that's getting moldy in the back of the fridge?

I rest my case.

I was being sarcastic. I agree with what you were saying about The NY Times.
