You mistake their meaning! "Tomatoes" is classic New York noir-speak for "women," as in "hey, pipe that classy tomato over there at the bar!"
So, be of good cheer, the pundits aren't cooking, they're just engaging in lechery as usual.
I'm completely mystified. Why would you search blogs for a hot tomato? These young people today, I can't keep up. And who keeps honking down there?
